What makes a door installation actually last?
A door is only as good as the frame it hangs in. Get the frame plumb and shimmed true, and the door swings right for years. Skip that, and it drags, sticks, or drifts open on its own no matter how good the slab is.
So the frame comes first. We set it plumb, level the head, and shim behind every hinge and the strike so the jamb stays straight under weight. Then we check the swing before the trim goes on. A door that closes with a light push and stays where you leave it is a door that was set right.
Older homes here need more attention. The concrete slab settles over time, and as it moves the openings shift out of square. When that happens a new slab alone will not fix a door that binds. The frame itself needs reworking so the opening is true again. We would rather rebuild the opening once than hang a good door in a crooked one and call it done. If you are updating openings elsewhere too, the same care applies to window replacement.
What interior and exterior doors do you handle?
We install both. Interior doors for bedrooms, baths, and closets, and exterior doors for the front and back of the house. Each one gets set to the same standard, but they ask for different things.
Interior doors are mostly about fit and feel. A bedroom door should latch quietly and swing without catching the carpet. Closet and bath doors get the same plumb frame and shimmed jamb, so they sit flush and the hardware lines up. These go faster than exterior work, but a sloppy interior door announces itself every time someone uses it.
Exterior doors carry a bigger load. Front doors take a beating from the afternoon storms that roll through Central Florida, so the weatherstripping and a solid threshold matter as much as the slab. We seal the frame against wind driven rain, set a threshold that sheds water instead of trapping it, and make sure the door pulls tight against the weatherstrip when it latches. How long does door installation take and what are the steps?
Most single interior doors go in within a day. Exterior doors can take a bit longer, and reframing an opening adds time. The honest answer depends on how many doors and what shape the openings are in.
The work runs in order. First we measure the opening carefully, since a small error there shows up later as a door that binds or gaps. Then we order the door and hardware to match. When the material arrives, we remove the old door and frame, clean up the opening, and set the new frame plumb.
From there we shim the jamb true, hang the door, and check the swing. Then the trim goes on, the threshold and weatherstrip get sealed on exterior work, and last comes the hardware. We test the latch, the lock, and the swing one more time before we leave. If your project spans several doors, we sequence them so your house stays livable while the work is underway. What door styles and hardware can you choose?
You have a wide range on both the door and the hardware, and we help you match it to the house rather than fight it. Panel styles run from clean flat panels to raised two and six panel looks, and there are plenty of options in between.
For exterior doors, glass inserts are a common choice. A little glass by the entry brings light into a dark foyer, and you can go from a small window up to a full glass panel depending on how much privacy you want. Finishes range from painted to stained wood tones, and we can prime and paint to the color you have in mind.
Hardware is where a door starts to feel finished. Locksets and handles come in lever and knob styles and a range of finishes, from matte black to brushed nickel to oil rubbed bronze. Exterior doors get a deadbolt keyed to match, and we can align the finish across the whole house so the front entry, the interior levers, and the hinges read as one set.
